Rose City Park Mural | Portland Mural Artist Chet Malinow
A community mural celebrating the Florists and Rose City Park.
For this project, I wanted to highlight the surrounding neighborhood and the activities that bring the community together. Baseball and softball serve as central themes, inspired by Erv Lind Field, located just a few blocks from the mural. The field has a rich history in women’s sports, both locally and nationally. From the 1930s through the 1960s, the Erv Lind Florists were a celebrated women’s fastpitch softball team that won multiple world championships and helped pave the way for women in competitive and professional sports.
The mural’s monochromatic color palette draws inspiration from vintage newspapers, giving the artwork a timeless, archival quality that connects the neighborhood’s sporting history with its present-day identity.
