I was so stoked to get the call from Megan, Founder of Piano Push Play, asking if I wanted to paint another piano this year! Piano Push Play is a fantastic Portland based organisation where upcycled pianos are decorated by artists then placed around town for the city to enjoy. Celebrating their tenth year this summer with a fantastic kickoff event in Pioneer Square, Portland, Oregon. My piano was selected to be onstage for the event where multiple Grammy winning artists played including Esperanza Spalding and Kyle O’Quin from Portugal the Man. After the kickoff event my piano was transported up to Mt. Tabor where there has been a series of outdoor concerts based around the piano.
This electric green set of keys is my fourth piano I have painted for PPP. Each year I attempt to top my last piano and this year I think I’ve done it! I had the opportunity to work with Tap Plastics who graciously sponsored all of my materials. The piano is titled “Heliotrope,” because of it glowing aura created by the sun’s reflections. The nature of the plastic I used illuminates the piano even at very low levels of light. Thank you to everyone who has shared pictures and videos of the piano being played.
Good Day Oregon featured the piano the other day. Watch the story on the Youtube link below:
